I have a house and land in Arietta,
On Friday, June 26, during the day we heard what I said were moose calling in the woods.
On Saturday afternoon, , I got on my ATV and went for a ride in my woods in the light rain. I got almost to the end of my land and spotted a large dark brown object in the woods. "What is that", I said to myself. I stopped my ATV on the trail and watched it for a little bit. Then it started moving out of the woods into the wetlands in front me about 50 yards away. It was a big bull moose. My heart was beating so hard from excitement it was hard for me to breath. Then I turned my ATV around and went very slowly back to the house. When I got there, I told my wife to get on her ATV to see a moose on our land. I told her where the moose was, so she went first on the trail. We got to the place where I saw the moose and she went down another 50 feet.
The moose was still there to my surprise. He was watching us. He turned around and we saw all 4 sides of him. For about 5 minutes, he ate, looked at us, and moved about. Then I said to my wife "I think I see another one". Yes, out of the woods into the wetlands came a big cow moose. They must have had their fill because they moved around and went slowly into the woods. I could kick myself for not have my camera with me. Now I am going out to get one of those small cameras that fit in your pocket and keep it with me at all times.
You bet I will get some pictures of them.
Mike Giffune reports:
It’s about a year late, but last fall I
almost hit a moose on Sabatis Circle Road near Little Tupper
Lake a little after dusk in September. This was a very
large buck that towered over my car, anywhere from ten to
eleven feet tall with the rack. It was amazing!
